I used to be a fat kid. When I was dating my husband ten years ago, he had just made a stray remark that it would be great if I could lose a little weight.   Being a student staying in a hostel I could not afford any gym.  What came to my relief was a simple skipping rope.Now after six years of marriage, I often get to hear - How do you maintain youself? How are you so thin?  Its not genetic, I have been sincerely skipping almost everyday for atleast 15 minutes for almost a decade. How much time did it take to get back ino shape initially- just six months! I would always listen to music of my choice and skip.
I guess no one ever talks about skipping is just because, it’s such an inexpensive way to be fit!

Benefits of skipping:

  • An hour of skipping burns a thousand calories. (But I would advise to go for 15 minutes, which is sufficient).It is an excellent cardio workout.
  • Its equivalent to running 12 Km /hr.
  • No need for a trainer, no additional costs attached.
  • It increases your energy levels , concentration levels,fexibility.
  • It improves your metabolism, bone density.
  • Skipping is good for diabetics, as it helps in increased insulin absorption.
  • You can also carry the rope when you are travelling.
  • The osteoporosis society in UK recommends 5 min of skipping everyday as a measure to prevent osteoporosis, which is a condition which many women have to deal with.

Individuals suffering from hypertension, cardiac problems, osteoporosis, and arthritis should check with their doctors before starting a skipping regimen.
